Does it really keep the doctor away? That probably depends on what else you do. But welcome news of a bumper crop of apples this year from Michigan to New York State and beyond, all the way to Britain, especially after less than desirable results in 2012, has chefs and cooks and foodies everywhere planning to do plenty with apples.

Okay, sure. But American cuisine offers so much more than just pie when it comes to cooking with the fruit most favored in fall. There are soups, slaws, roasted meat dishes, and of course some desserts as well. How do you like them apples?
