Welcome to The Carry-On, a handy grab bag of HuffPost Travel’s most riveting industry snippets, travel hacks and destination discoveries from the past week.
In this roundup, we hope to pack seven days of our site’s breaking news into a tote of travel-size tidbits, small enough to fit any overhead bin. This week, we gleaned
some highly enlightening tips from hotel staff regarding how not to make them hate us forever. Note to self: apparently, it's not cool to ask your concierge for a beach-side picnic with John Mayer.
Then -- per usual -- we “discovered” lots of places, like
Red Bank, New Jersey. We probably haven't previously heard from them because they were busy plugging holes in ye olde
ice boats.
Then we discovered some
underrated cities (have you heard of Detroit?!) and
under-the-radar beaches (including this place called Hawaii).
We also found
a wee, wee island in Canada with its own brewery and also a 1,500-year-old tree and also an incredibly innovative take on the common brownie. And also, we’re gonna move there.
One creative photographer layered old, vintage photos of Liverpool over modern photos of Liverpool. Strangely, everything looks pretty much the same in Liverpool… only nowadays people have tans, not sepia tones.
And thanks to
an even more creative mathematician, we now know that the perfect time to get to the airport is… is...
just in time. Best discovery since flight itself.
This fjord in Norway claims to have inspired the Disney movie "Frozen." It's been a crazy week -- but with a view like this, we're ready to "Let It Go."
...and so are you. Happy weekend, travelers!
