About

From Tim Hyland, your About Spectator Sports Editor
The National Football League, and the entire sport of football, has probably had better weeks in terms of public relations. Indeed, when PBS on Tuesday night aired the two-hour documentary "League of Denial," an entire nation was alerted to the dangers that come along with playing America's most popular game. They were alerted, too, to the less-than-ideal ways the NFL has managed those dangers over the years. Simply put, the documentary did not paint the league, or the sport, in a flattering light.

And yet, the fact remains that Americans love their football. We are here in the heart of football season, and most fans probably want to just sit back and enjoy their favorite sport.

The concussion issue should be discussed, though. And we'll do that--and a lot more, too--in this week's About.com Spectator Sports Newsletter.
